Applications for School Direct at Macmillan Academy in partnership with York St John University go live through DfE Apply on Tuesday 11th October (this date may be subject to change) and we will welcome applications.
Our school direct provision incorporates 4 days a week at Macmillan Academy (observation/training and teaching experience) and 1 day a week at
York St John University (academic studies). There are 3 placements involved in the PGCE year.
Placement 1 - September to December at Macmillan Academy (host school), placement 2 - January to March (6 weeks) in a partner school, placement 3 - March to June at Macmillan Academy.
In order to apply for a place on our school direct course you will need to have Maths and English GCSE (grade C/4 or above - equivalency tests are accepted), an A Level in your chosen subject(s), and a degree related to your chosen subject. Subject Knowledge Enhancement courses are available but funding for these varies and we are made aware of this by Easter of the application year.
Applications can be made through www.apply-for-teacher-training.service.gov.uk and when applications have been verified we will invite you for an interview morning/afternoon which will involve a tour of the school, mini teaching session and a formal interview. Full details will be provided with the interview invitation. Our successful candidates will be offered a place on the course within 48 hours of the interview.
If you are interested in our School Direct route into teacher training and therefore visiting Macmillan Academy or completing some observation days to ensure that secondary teaching is for you do not hesitate to contact Amy Tumelty – Director of Training School firstname.lastname@example.org
